I. A. Kuratov Literary Museum
About museum
The literary and memorial museum of the first Komi poet I. A. Kuratov was opened in 1969 as a branch of the Republican Museum of Local Lore. For the next 30 years it was located in a house on Ordzhonikidze Street. In 2009 the museum moved to a new building — the former house of merchant S. G. Sukhanov. The museum's exhibition introduces visitors to the history of the development of language, writing and literature in the region from the 14th to the 20th centuries. It includes sections such as "The Komi within the family of Finno-Ugric peoples", "The emergence of literacy among the Komi-Zyrians", "The life and works of I. A. Kuratov. The history of the discovery and study of his poetic legacy", "Komi literature of the first third of the 20th century", "Literature of the Komi Republic during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period: the 1940s–1950s", and "Contemporary literature of the Komi Republic. Second half of the 20th — beginning of the 21st century." Various events are held at the museum, including performances, exhibitions and round-table discussions.
