State Museum of the Defense of Moscow
About museum
The State Museum of the Defense of Moscow was established to commemorate the defenders of the city and to document the Battle of Moscow — the largest battle of the Great Patriotic War. The exhibition, reconstructed using authentic items and architectural-artistic solutions, helps to understand which forces stood against the walls of Moscow. The museum displays about 4,000 exhibits, including documents, photographs, weapons, paintings and personal belongings of battle participants. Each of the five thematic sections of the exhibition is devoted to a specific period of the defense of Moscow. For example, the first hall tells of the formation of people's militia divisions, and the evacuation of the population and factories of the capital in 1941–1942. The second hall is dedicated to the heroism of air defense troops. The third shows the defensive period of the battle, the fourth — the Soviet army's counteroffensive, and the fifth — the combat route from Moscow to Berlin. Visitors can turn the pages of Russia's history and feel the drama of the events of 1941–1942.
