Izhma District Local History Museum
About museum
Everything began in the 1960s, when students of the Izhma Secondary School, under the guidance of teachers, began collecting materials about the history of the village and the district. As a result, the idea of creating a school museum was proposed. Initially it occupied two small rooms, but at the request of the local population it was given a small house. In 1965, by decision of the district council of deputies, a people's museum was officially opened. It was run by I. F. Anufriev until 1970 and by I. A. Filippov until 1975. From 1983 to 1993 the museum was headed by N. K. Khatanzeisky. In 1993 the museum became a state district historical and local history museum, and in 1998 it received a new building. The museum has an archaeological collection that includes artifacts of ancient humans donated by archaeologist V. Luzgin. A distinctive exhibit is an 11th-century iron battle axe. The museum also displays materials on the history of the Izhma region in the 20th century, documents, photographs, exhibits, and themed interiors.
