About museum

The I. A. Brodsky House-Museum in the village of Norinskaya, Konoshsky District, Arkhangelsk Oblast was opened on April 8, 2015, on the basis of the house of Konstantin Borisovich and Afanasiya Mikhailovna Pesterevy. From early April 1964 until September 23, 1965, the administrative exile Iosif Alexandrovich Brodsky (1940–1996) — poet, essayist, translator, laureate of the 1987 Nobel Prize in Literature, U.S. Poet Laureate in 1991–1992 — lived in this house.
The house complex consists of two parts from different periods: a log dwelling with a farmyard, built in the late 19th — early 20th centuries, and a zimnik (winter dwelling) constructed in the 1930s.
The interior of the house has been recreated according to the recollections of friends who visited the poet during his exile; the exhibition is equipped with video and audio modules.
The I. A. Brodsky House-Museum is open to individual visitors on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday:
- from September 1 to May 31 — from 10:00 to 14:00,
- from June 1 to August 31 — from 12:00 to 16:00.
Excursions can be arranged from the town of Velsk for groups of 7 people or fewer using the museum's transport, and for groups using private transport, as well as for organized groups on other days of the week by prior request.
