Exhibition «Dostoevsky. Life and Work: Pro et contra»
Where: St. Petersburg, the F. M. Dostoevsky Literary Memorial Museum
Permanent exhibition; ticket prices 150–300 rubles
At the Dostoevsky Museum, a literary exposition 'Dostoevsky. Life and Work: Pro et contra' opened for the 200th anniversary of the writer's birth and the 50th anniversary of the museum. The first hall is devoted to Dostoevsky's life and work from his birth until 1864, a turning point preceding the creation of the novels of the Great five‑book cycle. The second hall covers the years 1864–1881, exceptional for the creative intensity in the writer's life: here the focus is less biographical and more on creative material, with primary attention given to the five novels 'Crime and Punishment', 'The Idiot', 'Demons', 'The Adolescent', 'The Brothers Karamazov' and the journalistic work 'A Writer's Diary'. The exposition is supplemented by electronic resources and video materials — programs 'Dostoevsky's Petersburg' (addresses of Dostoevsky and his characters), 'Dostoevsky's Foreign Trips', 'The Image of Dostoevsky' in photography, painting, graphics, and sculpture. An audio guide is available in Russian and several foreign languages. The exhibition is based on thorough scholarly and documentary foundations combined with vivid visual images to ensure maximum immersion in the presented material. It uses exhibits from the Dostoevsky Museum's collections, as well as reproductions of images and documents provided by other museums, archives, and research centers.
