National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan
About museum
There is always a lot of interesting and educational material in the museum! The National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan was founded in 1894 and opened on April 5, 1895. It houses one of the largest museum collections in Russia — 940,000 items. The museum's holdings include archaeological monuments of the Volga-Kama region and ethnographic collections of the peoples of the Volga region and the Cis-Urals, objects from Eastern and Western cultures, Islam and Orthodoxy, and memorial collections of outstanding figures in the history of Russia and the Tatar people. In 2020 a new exhibition, "The History of Tatarstan from Ancient Times to the Present Day," was opened. Here you can see the entire history of the region from mammoth tusks to the Universiade torch, from the oldest Stone Age finds to the high technologies of the 21st century, from primitive utensils to the furniture from the office of the first President of Tatarstan. You can also see an original manuscript from the era of the Kazan Khanate, the Efremov Gospel, Catherine II's carriage, rare jewelry made exclusively by Tatar jewelers, and 'secret' items created on commission for Derzhavin.
