Its highlight is a festive table with traditional treats.

On the eve of Maslenitsa week, which in 2025 will take place from February 24 to March 2, the exhibition 'Maslenitsa-Blinnitsa — Spring's Birthday' (0+) opened at the Prikaznaya Izba museum. The choice of venue is not accidental — it is one of the first civil stone buildings in the city of Vyatka, located at a crossroads of trade routes. Fairs have long been an integral element of the people's Maslenitsa festivities.

'For Maslenitsa not only was a new exhibition prepared. The entrance area of the Prikaznaya Izba has also been transformed: it is decorated with bright ribbons and garlands bearing symbols of the folk holiday — pancakes and kalachi, a balalaika, a samovar. In this way we wanted to create a festive mood not only for our visitors but also for the people of Kirov and tourists strolling along Spasskaya Street,' said Nadezhda Oskolkova, deputy director of the local history museum.

At the exhibition visitors will be able to see festive urban and peasant outfits, Dymkovo clay compositions, vintage photos depicting Maslenitsa fairs, the famous Vyatka garmons and samovars. Some exhibits will be shown to the public for the first time — for example, a samovar by the Popov brothers from Slobodskoy, the founders of this craft in Vyatka.

For a long time the highlights of the Prikaznaya Izba exhibitions have been the masterfully made mock-ups of various dishes. At the new exhibition no one will remain indifferent to the installation of a festive table with traditional Maslenitsa treats: there are blini with 'pomakushi', Suna ryzhiki, and Istobenskie cucumbers.

'And for the first time we are showing not only what was prepared for Maslenitsa but also how it was prepared. The exhibition includes a corner of the Vyatka housewife where you can see interesting household implements: a sechka, a butter churn, and a mortar and pestle. We are also ready to share old recipes of Maslenitsa dishes,' the Prikaznaya Izba team said.

A bright photo zone has also been created at the exhibition where visitors can take pictures with attributes of Maslenitsa festivities.
