Are you familiar with this address in Petersburg? This is a famous house, a haven for informal artists since the 1990s. You can come here to visit exhibitions and various events; several permanent museums are located here, but there has never been a full art exhibition reflecting the history of the place. That is understandable: museum work is a separate field, requiring special conditions, skills, and space. And the artists mostly have small studio-rooms.
And just recently an important event took place: a huge collection of more than four hundred items from Pushkinskaya, 10 was transferred to the Manezh exhibition hall on St. Isaac's Square. These are large, bright spaces and a super-professional team of museum specialists.
On July 9 an exhibition "Pushkinskaya, 10. Ark of the 21st Century" opened here, presenting this collection.
The exhibition's design perfectly conveys the atmosphere of an informal house. Bright and cheerful on the outside, bold and unusual on the inside. The exposition is divided into separate 'wagons', which immediately evokes several associations. And even if names like Ustyugov, Mikhnov-Voitenko, Isaev, Koshelokhov are unfamiliar to you... it's still worth visiting the event.
I would like to say a few words about the works of Vadim Voinov. This artist worked in the 20th and 21st centuries and became the author of his own method — a functional collage. He collected diverse objects that had already served and carried important meaning: pieces of clothing, stationery, calendars, manuscripts, awards, money, dishes... And he assembled all of this into paintings. By combining items with different 'characters' and histories in a certain way, Voinov achieved extraordinary juxtapositions that each time form a complete narrative.
The next section consists of archival photographs. I think you can see that the exhibition is very diverse and everyone will surely find something interesting here.
A big plus of the Manezh is that it is open until 9 PM with no days off!
