Tambov Regional Art Gallery

About museum

Tambov Regional Art Gallery was founded in 1960 and opened to visitors on April 30, 1961. It is located in the building of the former Naryshkin Reading Room, which was constructed in 1891–1892 to a design by architect A. S. Chetverikov with funds provided by His Imperial Majesty's Court Ober-Chamberlain E. D. Naryshkin. This building was erected for the Society for the Arrangement of Public Readings. Today residents and guests of Tambov come to the Naryshkin Reading Room to enjoy collections of Western European and Russian art of the 16th–20th centuries. The gallery presents unique masterpieces that attract attention not only in Russia but also abroad. It houses over 5,000 items of painting, sculpture, graphic art and decorative-applied arts. The gallery's funds comprise more than 5,000 inventory units, with about 400 of them on display in the halls at any one time. The Tambov Regional Art Gallery is a true heritage of culture and art that attracts many visitors.
