CK19 Culture Center presents an exhibition of contemporary photography as part of the XII International Festival "Other Dimension." The exhibition features more than 150 works.
"Other Dimension" is the only regular contemporary photography festival in Novosibirsk, created on the initiative of Andrey Martynov. The project has been running since 2006 and is being held at the CK19 venue for the sixth time.
The focus of the XII festival is photography from China. This is no coincidence, as 2024–2025 have been declared the Years of Culture of Russia and China, which implies a large number of exchange projects.
"Because the 'Other Dimension' festival has always exhibited works not only — and not so much — by 'Western' authors, but also by photographers from Eastern countries, the 'Chinese perspective' continues a long-standing tradition," says festival director Andrey Martynov.
Three young Chinese photographers have contributed works: Zhang Yu – "Glints on the Wings of a Green Moth" (2020), Nicky Tsai – the series "Ticket" (2019–2020), and Zihan Wei – photographs from the series "I Took No Action, I Just Said — 'Smile'."
"Japanese photography has not been forgotten either, to which I, as a curator, have a special and long-standing interest. For the first time, black-and-white photographs by Takehiko Nakafuji are being shown, along with color works by Yasuhiro Ogawa, which form the basis of his new book 'Into Silence,' and several photographs from Norio Kobayashi's long-term project 'Digital Kitchen'," clarifies Andrey Martynov. "Russia is represented by Polina Savina's project 'Impostors'."
The exhibition runs until May 12, 2024.
