Kirill Simakov is a multidisciplinary photographer who works in a variety of genres — from contemporary portraiture to natural landscapes. The photo exhibition “Citadel” is a conceptual exposition of five themes that complement each other: “Conquered City”, “Faces of the City”, “Silence of Nature”, “Dynamics of Lines”, “Saturated Blue”. Each photograph tells its own story: about the chaos and structure of the metropolis, about the grandeur of nature, about loneliness in the big city and the cosmic gradients of the night sky. The photographer’s work is distinguished by a love of urbanism, emotional dramaturgy and high craftsmanship.
Exhibition “Steps of Mastery: Russian Academic Drawing, 18th–early 20th century”

The Tretyakov Gallery is hosting a unique exhibition of graphic drawings by Russian artists of the 19th–20th centuries. The exhibition features study works of future masters of Russian art from the gallery’s reserves: Ilya Repin, Vasily Polenov, Mikhail Vrubel, Viktor Borisov-Musatov, Valentin Serov, Karl Bryullov, Ivan Shishkin, Ilya Mashkov, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova and many others. They all studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. The idea for the exhibition was born during the lockdown. The exhibition was put together to inspire students of higher art institutions and to demonstrate the stages of development of their great predecessors.
Exhibition “Contemporary Archaic: The Art of India’s Tribes”

The exhibition is dedicated to the art of the Indian Adivasi people. Adivasi are one of the oldest tribes that inhabited the territory of India even before the arrival of the Aryans. For centuries the tribes lived isolated from the outside world and preserved the rituals and traditions of their ancestors. The exhibition’s displays consist of small sculptures and paintings from the private collections of T. I. Oranskaya and Professor Manfred Paul of the University of Hamburg, complemented by items from the museum’s collection. Through the exhibits, visitors will learn about the Adivasi’s ideas of gods, the world, nature and people. The exhibition also features a documentary film about the life of the Adivasi tribes by ethnologist Cornelia Mallebrain.
Exhibition “From Tanais to Tana”

The exhibition presents archaeological finds from Tanais, the Golden Horde city of Azak-Tana and nomadic burial mounds. Nearly two hundred items are on display: ancient ceramics, weapons and jewelry from the late antique and medieval periods. For a full immersive effect into the world of the ancient civilization, the items are complemented by reconstructed historical costumes and exhibits of Scythian culture from the RIAMZ collection.

At the Museum of the World Ocean there is an exhibition dedicated to the great Russian rivers. The majesty of the Ob, Yenisei, Lena and Volga is conveyed through a series of one hundred watercolors and graphic works by Konstantin Putintsev. Russian nature, with its boundless rivers and endless expanses, is presented to viewers as it really is. The exhibition is complemented by items from the Museum of the World Ocean’s collections that tell about the origin and nature of the Russian rivers.
