About museum
August 29, 1703 is considered the birthday of the Military Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer Troops and Signal Troops (VIMAIViVS). At that time, by the personal order of Peter I a ceikhgaus (armory/storehouse) was built to store artillery pieces. Since then VIMAIViVS has become one of the world's largest museums, housing extensive collections of various artifacts. Here one can find weapons, equipment, battle banners, military uniforms and works of battle painting. The museum exhibits artworks, portraits of emperors, commanders, soldiers and officers, as well as paintings by famous Russian battle painters. All this provides a complete picture of Russia's heroic past.
