Yefim Mikhailovich Cheptsov – a Russian and Soviet painter and teacher, Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1946), member of the Leningrad Union of Soviet Artists. Yefim Mikhailovich Cheptsov completed the drawing school of the Kiev‑Pechersk Lavra. He later moved to Saint Petersburg, where he studied at M.K. Tenisheva’s art studio and at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Arts under V. Savinsky, Ya. Tsionglinsky and V. Makovsky.
 
In 1911 Cheptsov’s painting “At the Doctor” earned him the title of artist and the right to a foreign fellowship. He visited major museums in Berlin, Vienna, Paris, Florence and Rome, and also spent some time on the island of Capri, where he met A.M. Gorky. Upon returning to Russia in 1914 he lived in Saint Petersburg, spending the summer months in his native Medvenka, where he produced numerous studies and sketches from life.
 
After the Revolution Cheptsov lived for a time in Medvenka, returning to Petrograd in 1922. He actively participated in exhibitions of the Society named after A.I. Kuindzhi (1925–1930) and the AKhRR (Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia) (1922–1932). Alongside his artistic work he taught at various institutions: the AKhR studio (1926–1929), the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1933–1941) and the Moscow City Pedagogical Institute named after V.P. Potemkin (1945–1949). His main genres were landscape and genre painting. In 1946 the artist received the title Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Yefim Mikhailovich Cheptsov died in Moscow in 1950 and was buried at the Vvedenskoye Cemetery.
