About museum
In 1991, the Museum of the History of Petersburg Brick was established at SPbGASU, following a 30-year period of studying the condition of brick structures, residential buildings, industrial facilities and architectural monuments of Saint Petersburg. The new exhibition, opened at the end of October 2011, presents more than 400 samples of St. Petersburg wall ceramics produced from the city's founding until the end of the 19th century. The museum also displays reproductions of drawings and engravings reflecting brick production in the 18th–19th centuries, and photographs of buildings and structures constructed by St. Petersburg architects in the mid-19th century. The collection of exhibits is ongoing, becoming a genuine archaeological activity related to the study of building ceramics. The museum holds themed lectures on the history of brick production. It appeals to a wide audience, including students, faculty and university staff, schoolchildren, teachers, historians and architects.
