Rybinsk Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve
About museum
The Rybinsk State Historical-Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve is the main attraction of the old Volga town. It is located in the building of the New Grain Exchange, built to a design by the Moscow architect A. V. Ivanov in 1912, and resembles the fanciful 'Old Russian chambers'. The museum was established on the initiative of members of the Rybinsk branch of the Yaroslavl Society of Natural History in 1910. Its core collections are based on the materials of V. S. Mikhalkov (1817–1900), a representative of an ancient noble family, bibliophile and collector, and owner of the Petrovskoye estate in the suburbs. The museum exhibits works by famous masters of the Russian school from the 18th to the early 20th centuries, such as I. Ya. Vishnyakov, I. K. Aivazovsky and Z. E. Serebryakova. You can also see the portrait gallery of the Counts Musin-Pushkin. The museum's collections allow for a variety of thematic exhibitions and participation in projects of other regional museums. In addition, visitors are offered a range of interactive activities.
