Ryazan Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve is one of the oldest museums in Russia, established on June 15, 1884. It houses 241,709 items. On its grounds one can find monuments of Early-Muscovite, Muscovite, Byzantine and Classical architecture, such as the Archangel Cathedral, the Epiphany Church, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Assumption Cathedral. It also contains a unique collection of icons, weapons and armor, manuscript and early printed books from the 13th to the 20th centuries, as well as porcelain, glass, ceramics, jewelry, wooden sculpture and much more. Liturgical services are held on the museum's grounds, and archaeological finds represent the Stone, Bronze, Early Iron Ages and the Finno-Ugric settlement of the Ryazan region.
