Severny Ochag Park of Culture and Recreation
About museum
On December 7, 2012, with the support of the Department of Culture of the Administration of Purovsky District, the Severny Ochag Park of Culture and Recreation was established. It is located in the southern part of the city and covers 15,277 sq. m. This place has become beloved and has attracted many visitors from all corners of the globe. The park features a Nenets chum museum, which exhibits items of nomadic daily life, clothing, jewelry, and tools used in work and traditional crafts. Guided tours on the culture and traditional way of life of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North are also offered. On the park grounds there are guest chums (camps), as well as an alley with sculptures based on the myths and legends of the forest and tundra Nenets. You can hold a family celebration here or simply relax with loved ones, and depending on the season attend numerous ritual or public events. When leaving the park, following an ancient tradition, visitors are invited to tie a scrap of cloth or ribbon to the sacred birch tree and make a wish.
