About museum
The Derzhavin Museum-Estate is a complex of buildings that includes a greenhouse, a garden and a parade courtyard, which over the last quarter of a century has become one of the most important centers of St. Petersburg's cultural life. Famous people such as N. A. Lvov, V. V. Kapnist, A. N. Olenin, V. L. Borovikovsky, D. S. Bortnyansky, D. I. Fonvizin, N. M. Karamzin and I. I. Dmitriev met here. The museum features 16 period interior halls displaying examples of decorative and applied arts, painting, graphics, books and manuscripts of writers, and portraits of Derzhavin. The most significant room in the house is Derzhavin's study, which was reconstructed based on a drawing by P. A. Kozhevnikov and on contemporaries' recollections. All the furniture in it was made according to the poet's designs. The restored interiors correspond to the historical function of the rooms and convey an excellent impression of the owner's home.
