S. S. Prokofiev Museum
About museum
The Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev Museum, dedicated to the great 20th-century composer, opened to visitors on Kamergersky Lane in 2008. It was the home of his second wife, Mira Alexandrovna Mendelson-Prokofieva, where he spent the last six years of his life. Here he worked on his compositions and hosted musician friends and young performers. In 1968 Mira Alexandrovna bequeathed Sergei Sergeyevich’s archive and personal belongings to the M. I. Glinka Museum of Musical Culture Foundation, which became the basis for the museum. The venue brings together original collection materials and a reconstructed study of the composer. The museum holds musical evenings, events, and children’s classes introducing the work of S. S. Prokofiev. In 2016, on the composer’s 125th anniversary, the exhibition "Sergei Prokofiev — a Composer Ahead of His Time" was opened. The museum is part of the All-Russian Museum Association of Musical Culture named after M. I. Glinka.
