Russian-Mongolian Friendship Museum
About museum
The Russian-Mongolian Friendship Museum is the only institution in the Russian Federation dedicated to the history of the Mongolian People's Republic. It was built in 1862 by the well-known Troitskosavsk pharmacist O. Kh. Rudzit as a private residence. In 1920–1922 it housed the consulate of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in Mongolia. Here D. Sukhbaatar and his associates prepared for the uprising against foreign militarists and the White Guard units of Baron Ungern-Sternberg. In 1971, on the 50th anniversary of the 1921 Mongolian People's Revolution, the museum was opened. In the early 21st century a hall called "Brotherhood in Arms" was added, dedicated to the battles at the Khalkhin-Gol River and the USSR's assistance to Mongolia during World War II. Today the museum hosts various exhibitions on the history and culture of the region, as well as a permanent memorial room where the treaty of the first congress of the MPRP was signed. Active exhibition projects are also held at the Baldan Breybun datsan.
