Lev Kassil Museum
About museum
The L. A. Kassil Museum was opened on November 9, 1995, in the city of Engels (formerly Pokrovsk), where the writer spent his childhood and youth. It is located in an old 19th–20th century building on L. A. Kassil Street (formerly Atkarskaya), where the Kassil family lived from 1918 until the mid-1950s. The exhibition "Three Countries That Are Not on the Map" allows visitors to observe the life and creative work of the writer, to immerse themselves in the history of old Pokrovsk, and to visit the countries invented by L. A. Kassil. The core of the exhibition consists of documents from the writer's archive, local history materials, manuscripts, photographs, illustrations, books with dedication inscriptions, and personal items. The museum preserves the past while initiating and developing new traditions, valuing the personality of the writer, his playfulness, and his imagination.
