About museum
The public local history museum of the town of Pokhvistnevo was founded in 1991 and is the only place in the district where one can learn about the area's history. The museum has exhibitions such as the 'Hall of Military Glory', 'Nature and Archaeology', 'Merchant's Parlor', 'Peasant Hut', 'History of the Town', and 'City of Wind'. In addition, the museum displays photocopies from the International Public Organization Center of Spiritual Culture 'Raduga'. Every three months the museum holds temporary exhibitions. In 2010 the museum won the seventh competition of the V. Potanin Charitable Foundation 'A Changing Museum in a Changing World' with the project 'City of Wind'. The museum also holds an annual 'Wind Day'. The museum's collections comprise more than 30,000 items. Approximately 13,000 people visit the museum annually, and about 400 guided tours are conducted. Besides museum tours, there are other tourist routes intended to introduce visitors to the town and its surroundings, as well as pilgrimages to villages in the Pokhvistnevo district.
