Museum of the History of Tray Craft "House of the Khudoyarovs"

The museum building is a federally protected historical monument. A solid two-story house, built no later than 1843, it belonged in the mid-19th century to the family of metal-painting artist Isaak Fedorovich Khudoyarov; his descendants later lived there. During the Soviet period the building was adapted for communal housing, with numerous interior partitions added. Originally the house stood on Gorky Street (formerly Beregovaya), and in 1982 it was moved to the territory of the ethnographic complex on Tagilskaya Street and rebuilt on the new site with replacement of some log sections. The Museum of the History of Tray Craft opened its doors in 1991. The authors of the first exhibition were the head of the ethnographic department T.N. Petrukhina (first floor) and research fellow O.N. Silonova (second floor). A re-exposition was carried out in 2006–2009. The concept was authored by the head of the ethnographic department E.R. Merkusheva. It was implemented, with some modifications, by a creative team including the deputy director for research A.Kh. Fakhretdenova and researchers G.A. Osetrova and E.N. Ustyugova. This exhibition remains in place today. The museum offers a retrospective presentation of the emergence and development of the unique craft of metal painting from the 18th to the 21st century, and acquaints visitors with the life and work of the famous Tagil painters Khudoyarovs.
