Moscow Museum of Modern Art in Yermolayevsky Lane
About museum
Moscow Museum of Modern Art is the first state museum in Russia dedicated to art of the 20th and 21st centuries. It was opened on December 15, 1999, with the support of the Moscow Government and the Moscow City Department of Culture. Zurab Tsereteli, President of the Russian Academy of Arts, became the founder and director of the museum. His personal collection, consisting of more than 2,000 works by 20th-century artists, laid the foundation for the museum's holdings. Today the museum is located across four sites in central Moscow: the main building on Petrovka Street, a five-story building in Yermolayevsky Lane, a spacious gallery on Tverskoy Boulevard, and the historic building of the Russian Academy of Arts on Gogolevsky Boulevard. The museum offers visitors new perspectives on understanding and researching contemporary art. It has become one of the most active participants in the capital's art life and houses one of the most representative collections of Russian art of the 20th century.
