Kirovo-Chepetsk City Museum
About museum
On August 25, 1960, in the young city of Kirovo-Chepetsk, at the initiative of the director of the chemical plant Yakov Filimonovich Tereshchenko, a local history museum was opened. Nikolai Antonovich Sobolev became the museum's first director. For three decades the museum operated on a voluntary basis. In 1980 the Minister of Culture of the RSFSR awarded it the honorary title "People's Museum". In 1990 the museum became a state branch of the Kirov United Historical, Architectural and Literary Museum. In 1999 the Kirovo-Chepetsk City Museum and Exhibition Center was established. It has always played an important role in the city's cultural life. The center's main activities are organizing various exhibitions and scientific research. The museum's holdings comprise about 20,000 storage units, and the exhibitions are research-based. Since 2011 the center has been an autonomous institution.
