Prokofiy Vasilyevich Nektov

Prokofiy Vasilyevich Nektov – combine operator of the Belozerskaya MTS, Orenburg Oblast. He was born in the village of Kazanka, Orenburg Oblast. He lost his father early and was raised by his grandfather. After finishing parochial school he worked in the fields.
In 1930 Nektov joined a kolkhoz. After completing tractor operator courses he worked at a sovkhoz, then as foreman of a tractor brigade and at the kolkhoz "Trudovoy Front". In 1942 he was drafted into the army. He took part in battles on the Leningrad Front, was severely wounded and was demobilized.
Despite losing his legs, Nektov decided to work as a combine operator. He repaired a decommissioned combine himself and began working at the MTS and the Kirov kolkhoz. In 1951 Prokofiy Vasilyevich achieved a record output — 1,640 hectares of grain. In the same year he was awarded the Order of Lenin. On October 10, 1953, for heroism in labor shown over a number of years in the harvesting and threshing of cereal crops, Prokofiy Vasilyevich was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labour with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal "Hammer and Sickle". He continued to work as a combine operator until 1960, served as a deputy and public figure. Prokofiy Vasilyevich Nektov died on May 16, 1987.
