Museum Rows
About museum
The Torzhok Trading Rows complex was formed in the 18th–19th centuries on the site of an ancient marketplace that became the birthplace of the town. In 1941–1942 part of the rows was destroyed during bombings, and a park was created in their place. The buildings that survived were rebuilt in the postwar years and adapted for use as shops. A cinema was housed in one of the buildings, which at the end of the 1990s was transferred to the museum. It now houses exhibitions: 'History Under Your Feet', 'Walks through Old Torzhok' and 'Torzhok on the Frontline'. In the first, visitors can learn about the town's history, see a reconstruction of a Neolithic dwelling, a collection of birch-bark manuscripts, and weapons. The second focuses on the daily life and occupations of townspeople from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
