Buryatia Museum of Nature
About museum
The Buryatia Museum of Nature was opened on July 12, 1983, based on the Nature Department of the M. N. Khangalov Local History Museum. Since then it has become one of the country's leading natural history museums and a member of various associations. It displays natural specimens that have been prepared and preserved. In April 2019 a new exhibition “Taiga, Lake, Steppe…” was opened in the building of the Ts. S. Sampilov Art Museum. It is a multimedia interactive exhibition featuring sounds of the forest, calls of animals and birds, scents of coniferous trees, and authentic museum exhibits. The museum's aim is to draw attention to the nature of Buryatia and Lake Baikal, to inspire love for them and the desire to help preserve them, as our ancestors did.
