Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore

The Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore was founded on October 17, 1926. It collects, preserves and promotes historical and cultural monuments of the Murmansk Region, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore its various collections. Its holdings include more than 170,000 exhibits, and the museum library contains 18,000 books and journals on regional studies. More than 100 exhibitions are organized annually, as well as traveling exhibitions upon request. The museum has launched a Regional Children's and Youth Center for Local Studies, which offers interactive and educational local-history programs for preschool and school-age children. The museum includes two territorial branches: the Museum of the History, Culture and Life of the Kola Sami in the village of Lovozero, and the Museum of the History, Culture and Life of the Pomors in the village of Umba.
