Andrei Yakovlevich Krems – chief geologist, deputy head for science of the Ukhta Territorial Geological Administration. Andrei Krems was born in the settlement Zyud-Ostov-Kultuk in the Azerbaijan SSR. In 1931 he graduated from the Azerbaijan Oil Institute with a degree in oil-field engineering.
 
Krems began his working career in 1920 as a technician at the Azneft company. From 1934 to 1938 he served as chief geologist of Glavneft of the USSR People's Commissariat of Heavy Industry in Moscow. In 1938 Andrei Yakovlevich was arrested and was sentenced by the Special Council of the NKVD of the USSR in 1939. He was released in July 1940 and began working at the Ukhtkombinat as deputy head of the combine and head of the geological exploration department. From 1942 Krems held the position of chief geologist of the combine.
 
In 1944 his conviction was annulled, and in 1956 he was fully rehabilitated. For more than 34 years Andrei Yakovlevich Krems led geological exploration work and research that contributed to the creation of a large oil and gas production base in the northwestern part of the European USSR. Andrei Yakovlevich Krems died in 1975 and was buried in Ukhta.
