I.M. Poddubny Memorial Museum
About museum
In 1971, a memorial museum dedicated to Ivan Maksimovich Poddubny — a six-time world champion in French (now Greco-Roman) wrestling, recipient of the Order of the Red Banner of Labour, Honored Master of Sport of the USSR, and Honored Artist of the RSFSR — was built and opened in the town of Yeisk. It is located near his grave in the park that bears his name. The museum's architectural and artistic design is based on the image of the 'shapito' circus tent, and its collections contain more than 3,000 exhibits, including personal belongings, rare photographs and documents, posters, books, and magazines. This branch of the Yeisk Historical and Local Lore Museum named after V. V. Samsonov is visited by about 40,000 people from different parts of the world. The museum hosts themed exhibitions, guided tours, interactive programs and theatrical events for children.
