Katyn Memorial Complex
About museum
On 28 July 2000 a memorial was opened in the Dmitrovsky District of Moscow Oblast, dedicated to the victims of political repressions and to Polish prisoners of war. More than 8,000 residents of the Smolensk region and more than 4,000 Polish prisoners of war are buried on the grounds of the complex. In 2018 a reconstruction was carried out and the exhibitions 'Preserved Memory' and 'Russia and Poland. 20th Century. Pages of History' were created. In the 'Valley of Death' a sculptural composition by A. N. Kovalchuk was unveiled, including the monument 'Execution' and the Wall of Memory, on which the names of people shot during the repressions are displayed. The memorial helps us not to forget and to remember the tragic pages of our history.
