Birch Bark of Siberia Museum

In August 2009, the 'Birch Bark of Siberia' Museum was opened in an old merchant building; it is dedicated to decorative and applied art made from birch bark. The initiator of the museum's creation was Yuri Mikhailovich Mikhailov, People's Master of Russia, People's Master of Kuzbass, Honorary Citizen of the city of Mariinsk. The museum presents collections of Mariinsk birch-bark craftsmen: Yu. Mikhailov, V. Danilov, A. Volkov, A. Panov and others. Works by masters from Kuzbass and Siberia, as well as Tomsk birch bark, are also exhibited: V. Shaplova, V. Guzhin, V. Pavlova, A. Pupynimyma, V. Taran and others. The museum's exhibitions are arranged to showcase each master. The museum displays unique works by the masters, made in various techniques using untreated birch bark. The museum features works by People's Masters of Russia and Kuzbass O. Komarova and V. Khakhalina, as well as E. Zhivotova from Kemerovo.
