I.A. Bunin Literary and Memorial Museum
About museum
On June 4, 1988, in the city of Yelets, the museum of Ivan Alekseyevich Bunin was opened — the first memorial museum in Russia dedicated to the classic of Russian literature. It is located in a 19th-century wooden house that belonged to Anna Osipovna Rostovtseva. Ivan Bunin lived in this house during his gymnasium years (1881–1886).

\r\nThe small burgher house with rather modest furnishings, hiding in the shade of tall trees on a quiet street, remains one of the most visited tourist sites not only in Yelets but also in the Lipetsk region. The museum is well known both in Russia and beyond.
\r\n
\r\nIt is here, where, as visitors say, everything "breathes and lives" Bunin, that priceless rarities of his era are kept. They transport the modern person to the distant 19th century. Many tourists come to Yelets to touch the history of the ancient city that the writer celebrated in the pages of his books.
\r\n
\r\nThe numerous visitor reviews testify to the unceasing interest in the museum. But it is better to see once than to hear a hundred times. Therefore, while traveling around your country, be sure to stop by Yelets — the homeland of Ivan Alekseyevich — and visit his museum!
\r\n
\r\nThe museum's exhibition consists of photographs of the writer, editions published during his lifetime, his personal belongings, his favorite hunting rifle, a copy of the Nobel Prize diploma, and the old suitcase with which Bunin traveled to Stockholm to receive the award. This museum inspires unwavering interest and pride in a great compatriot.
