Chamber Theatre of Yekaterinburg
About museum
The Chamber Theatre is a literary and musical hall that is part of the United Museum of Ural Writers. The idea of the Chamber Theatre emerged in 1986 and was in keeping with the spirit and mission of the place itself — the Literary Quarter. The architectural ensemble of museum manor houses, a park, historical venues and sites — the theatre was conceived as a new way to uphold the image of literature, promote cultural and museum values, and explore theatrical interpretations of the classics. However, the time was not ready for it — the Chamber could have become one of Sverdlovsk’s long-term construction projects; it took 12 dramatic years before it appeared. On December 1, 1998, the premiere of the play 'The Stone Flower' based on the tale by P. P. Bazhov took place. The production was staged by Vyacheslav Anisimov, Honored Art Worker of Russia, who served as the theatre’s chief director from 1998 to 2002. The theatre’s repertoire includes productions by Honored Art Workers of the Russian Federation Vladimir Rubanov and Dmitry Astrakhan, People's Artist of the RSFSR and State Prize laureate named after the Vasilyev brothers Yaropolk Lapshin, among others. The Chamber Theatre’s productions have featured People's Artist of Russia and Golden Mask award winner Svetlana Zamaraeva, People's Artist of Russia Valentin Voronin, and others. Today, in addition to performances, the theatre’s venue hosts important city events: festivals, academic conferences, and celebrations.
