Komsomolsk-on-Amur City Museum of Local History
About museum
The city museum of local history was founded in 1935 at the initiative of the city’s first builders who arrived to construct the city in 1932. In 1938, the museum, established on a voluntary/community basis, opened its doors to visitors. On April 10, 1939, it was granted the status of a state institution subordinate to the Ministry of Culture of the RSFSR.
During the Great Patriotic War the museum did not operate and, unfortunately, many exhibits were lost.
In 1947, when the city celebrated its 15th anniversary, a jubilee exhibition was organized; the materials from that exhibition formed the basis of the state city local history museum’s exposition. Over the years the museum has undergone five reconstructions and a number of significant re-expositions.
The museum’s main activities are scientific research, collection management, exhibition/display work and educational outreach. These activities are carried out by five museum departments: three exhibition departments, a scientific-educational department and a collections department.
