Torum Maa Open-Air Ethnographic Museum
About museum
The museum was founded in 1987 at the initiative of representatives of the national creative intelligentsia among the Khanty and Mansi. The name 'Torum Maa' from the Mansi language translates as 'Sacred Land'.
'Torum Maa' presents an authentic reconstruction of the lifestyle of the Ob-Ugrians. The museum's collection comprises more than 5,000 storage units. The museum coordinates scientific and expeditionary work in the field of ethnography of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the autonomous okrug, organizes traveling and permanent exhibitions, and conducts outreach and educational activities aimed at consolidating the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Ugra and reviving folk festivals and traditions.
Each year the museum offers visitors traditional festivals and rites of the Ob-Ugrians: seminars, master classes, children's activities, lectures, and tours for various categories of visitors.
