Bodaybinsky City Local History Museum named after V.F. Vereshchagin
About museum
On August 8, 1980, a museum was opened in Bodaybo that has since become one of the main cultural centers of the district and is popular with local residents and visitors. It is housed in a two-story wooden mansion built at the end of the 19th century for Barguzin merchant Yakov Davydovich Frizer. The museum's collections were assembled bit by bit over decades, and the museum was named after Vladimir Fedorovich Vereshchagin, a local historian, patriot and honorary citizen, in 2003, on the centenary of the city of Bodaybo. The museum's holdings currently include more than 17,000 registered items, including household and work implements, monuments of history and nature, paintings, graphics, numismatic items, applied arts, printed materials and others. Visitors can learn about the history and culture of the district, see an ancient campsite hearth, a model of the local wildlife, and many other interesting exhibits.
