About museum
The Annunciation Cathedral is a federally protected architectural monument located in the center of the town of Solvychegodsk. It was built in 1560–1584 and has an area of 1,520.5 sq. m. In the cathedral's southern aisle there is an exhibition presenting a collection of Old Russian paintings and decorative-applied arts. Here one can see icons, liturgical veils embroidered with gold and silver threads, church utensils, crosses, Gospel covers and other works of the Stroganovs. The cathedral's summer church contains frescoes from 1600 and a 17th-century church interior. The exhibition complex includes the Stroganov family chapel-tomb (1826). Visitors can also climb the bell tower to view the town from above, inspect the cathedral's lower chambers (podklet) and learn about the hidden stone cavities.
