Janis Rainis House Museum
About museum
In 1952, an exhibit dedicated to the political exiles of the town of Slobodskoy was created in the local history museum. In 1954, a commemorative plaque was installed on the house where Jan Rainis had lived. In 1960, the building was placed under state protection as a historical monument of republican significance. Negotiations with the Latvian side began in 1986, and in 1988 the building was transferred to the Jan Rainis Museum. Staff of the Kirov State United Historical-Architectural and Literary Museum developed a thematic exhibition plan for the sections of the house-museum. On the first floor it was planned to place two rooms, and on the second floor four rooms, in the two-story wooden building on a stone foundation with steam heating. The exhibition will tell about Jan Rainis's time in exile and the influence of this period on his views and work. Thus, the history of the Jan Rainis Museum began in 1952.
