The CK19 Cultural Center and the company Designmaster present an exhibition of digital art works by the finalists of the "New Names" competition as part of the Art on Billboard partner project, which brought together artists from Siberia (from Novosibirsk, Omsk, Barnaul, Kemerovo).
The theme of the 2024 project, "Digital Mind," invites artistic reflection on the question: how does the development of technology affect a person and their spiritual self? The focus is on how people perceive technological innovations and how the modern individual adapts to the global digitalization of the world.
"The contemporary person exists in a constant flow of information, which inevitably affects the perception of oneself and the world. Today we need a balance between digital reality and interpersonal relationships in life, between technological progress and spiritual development. <…> The Art on Billboard theme for 2024, 'Digital Mind,' became a stimulus to think about how to use technology for the benefit of oneself and others," shares project curator Tatyana Valova.
The Art on Billboard 2024 art project consisted of several stages. The first was an exhibition on the outdoor advertising video screens of the operator Designmaster featuring works by recognized masters of digital art: Dmitry Bulnygin, Damir Muratov, Eduard Leven, Evgeny Malkov, Anton Sakara, Nuclear Los', Vitaly Sakreda, Oleg Semyonov, Stepan Shobolov, and the Blue Noses art group. The second stage was the call for entries for the "New Names" contest for young media artists. The third stage was the jury's selection of the 30 best works (from 106 submitted) and the determination of the winners. The final stage was the broadcast of the finalists' and winners' works from the "New Names" competition on digital screens and an exhibition in the halls of CK19.
"The idea of promoting art on billboards, simultaneously advertising both the work and its author and the subsequent exhibition in a museum/gallery, is a brilliant experiment. <…> How effective this path is will be shown by time, but one thing can be asserted with confidence — extra publicity and a minute of fame have never harmed artists," clarifies Viktor Ershov, jury member of the "New Names" competition, art curator and media producer.
The project's history began in 2021. It was then that the first art exhibition took place on Novosibirsk's digital screens. In 2022 (following the next project in Yekaterinburg), Art on Billboard gained wide recognition and received awards in two categories at the Silver Mercury festival of the best advertising projects. In 2023 the project was devoted to art photography and was implemented with the support of the Novosibirsk State Art Museum and the Novosibirsk regional branch of the Union of Photo Artists of Russia.
"By broadcasting contemporary digital art on the city's video screens, we became convinced that technology gives artists endless opportunities for self-expression and the realization of creative ideas," concludes project curator Tatyana Valova.
The fourth Art on Billboard project, "Digital Mind," created in partnership with CK19, features works by the finalists and winners of the "New Names" competition, as well as works by recognized masters of digital art.
The exhibition runs until May 5, 2024.
