Local History Department of the Central Library
About museum
In 1995 the only provincial forest museum in the central regions of Russia was established, housed in the former commercial building of S. V. Sveshnikov, built at the end of the 18th century. It serves as a center for environmental education and outreach for the public. In the 'Forest Fairy' parlor wild animals, birds, fish and insects are exhibited, and interactive programs devoted to the environment are held. You can also see a stylized Russian izba, furniture, clothing, kitchen utensils, bast shoes (lapti), spinning wheels and much more, providing an insight into the history of bygone times. The museum offers individual viewing of the exhibits, as well as guided tours and photography, including for younger school-aged children. Since 2016 the museum has been incorporated into the Central Library of the Municipal Cultural Institution 'Pervomayskaya Intersettlement Centralized Library System' as its local history department.
