As part of the 'Culture for Schoolchildren' program, the A.N. Radishchev Museum hosted an intellectual-entertaining game 'Russian Pastimes' for the children of the 'Istoki' health camp at the school in the village of Makhalino, Kuznetsky District.
Museum staff talked about the traditions and rituals of the Russian people. Young visitors learned that Russian folk games have a centuries-old history: they have been preserved and reached our days from ancient times, passed down from generation to generation, absorbing the best national traditions. The participants of the game were introduced to the traditional folk doll, which was not just a toy but a symbol of the continuation of the family line and a pledge of family happiness.
The boys and girls learned that the most ancient type of footwear among peasants were bast shoes (lapti), which were woven from the bark and inner bark of many deciduous trees: linden, birch, elm, oak, and rakita (a kind of willow), using a 'kochedyok' — a hook for weaving. The children were shown such an item from the museum's collection and took part in the old folk game 'Lapti'.
The children demonstrated their agility and resourcefulness in the games 'Lyulka' (Cradle), 'Rucheyok' (Little Stream), 'Malechina–Kalechina', showed skill in the amusements 'Les' (Forest) and 'Tug of War', and were also able to perform Alexander Radishchev's beloved circle-dance song 'A Birch Tree Stood in the Field'.
To revive these beloved games and give them a second life, all that is needed is to teach children how to play them. Games should not be forgotten, as they fulfill their main purpose — bringing joy and pleasure to both children and adults.
Advance registration for the event is required and can be made by phone at 8(84157)5-16-25 or via Telegram at 89530263804.
