A. N. Radishchev State Museum
About museum
A. N. Radishchev State Museum was opened on October 28, 1945 in the village of Verkhne-Ablyazovo (now Radishchevo) in the Kuznetsky District of the Penza Region. The idea to open the museum belonged to the villagers, and it has been part of the Association of State Literary and Memorial Museums of the Penza Region since 1975. The museum features the literary exhibition "Life and Work of A. N. Radishchev", located in the former zemstvo school, and "From the Verkhne-Ablyazovo Chronicle" in the family Spaso-Preobrazhensky (Transfiguration) Church. Here you can see antique engravings and lithographs depicting the cities visited by A. N. Radishchev. The museum also presents information on the creation and printing of "A Journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow", his arrest and death sentence, and the Siberian exile that replaced it. The church contains the graves of A. N. Radishchev's parents and brother, and the manor house built by his great-grandfather was restored in 1990–1993. In addition, every July a traditional Tikhvin Fair is held on the museum grounds.
