International Children's Book Day is celebrated every year on the same date — April 2; residents of dozens of countries around the world, including Russia, join in the celebrations. The date is no coincidence: it coincides with the birthday of one of the most famous storytellers in history — Hans Christian Andersen, who contributed to the creation of the children's book.
To mark this day, the staff of the A.N. Radishchev Museum organized an off-site book exhibition "Book Kingdom — the Wise State" at the general education school in the village of Makhalino, Kuznetsky District. The exhibition features works by children's writers and poets who have influenced more than one generation, yet remain interesting to children and adults today. Among them are books by K.I. Chukovsky, A.L. Barto, N.N. Nosov, A.S. Pushkin, A.I. Kuprin.
Schoolchildren learned about the history of the holiday and, leafing through the pages of children's books, recalled the heroes of beloved works: the wonderful Doctor Aibolit, who will surely fly in and save everyone, the curious Neznaika and other inhabitants of Flower City. They also analyzed A.I. Kuprin's children's works "The Elephant", "Yu-Yu", "Sapsan", "The White Poodle". Kuprin often chose animals as the main characters of his works. He believed that they possessed abundantly what many people lack — a striving for freedom, the ability to love and form sincere attachments, and a childlike spontaneity.
A book is our faithful friend from childhood that will always teach something new, plunge one into the amazing world of fascinating journeys and interesting discoveries. Through reading, a child develops thinking, imagination, and correct speech. A children's book not only nurtures each child individually, but helps shape the moral and intellectual character of whole generations.
