On May 25, 2024, an interactive exhibition "National Sports of Yakutia" opened at the State Museum of Sports.
Yakutia is one of the most interesting and enigmatic regions of our country. Extreme temperatures, shamans, the Lena Pillars, national holidays, the distinctive culture of the Yakut peoples, its centuries-old traditions and epic — all of this is reflected in the new exhibition of the State Museum of Sports.
The exhibition occupies an impressive 400 square meters, divided into three locations devoted to: 1. the sporting traditions of Yakutia 2. Yakut traditions, culture, everyday life and folk crafts 3. the international sporting games "Children of Asia".
The exhibition tells about the national sports and traditional festivals of Yakutia, during which sporting competitions and games are held. The focus is on the sporting traditions of the region and the specifics of holding competitions in Yakut national sports such as mas-wrestling, khapsagay wrestling, jumps over the narty (sled jumps), stone carrying, traditional archery, the Yakut vertushka, throwing the tynyan onto the khorey, khabilyk and khaamyska. Special attention is given to the Manchaary Games and the traditional Yakut holiday Ysyakh.
