State Museum of Sport
About museum
The State Museum of Sport — home to more than one hundred thousand unique exhibits that symbolize the traditions and glory of national sport and form the basis of our country's sporting-historical heritage. The museum is located in the building of the historic estate of Alexey Kirillovich Razumovsky, which is a historical and cultural monument of the city.
The Museum's exhibition occupies 11 themed halls. Here you can see photographs, trophies and medals of great athletes, and also learn what sport in Russia was like before the Revolution. For example, on display are a penny-farthing bicycle (with a large front wheel) and a rowing machine. The Museum's halls and collections contain more than 100,000 items, 300 of which have no analogues in the world. This is a kind of "quintessence" of sporting values and rarities. By items per m², the State Museum of Sport ranks first among sports museums in the world.
The Museum conducts regular tours for different groups of visitors and actively participates in projects to promote physical culture and sport. For example, the Museum regularly hosts motivating and informative meetings for children with our Olympic champions.
