On the first weekend of August, the House of I. S. Ostroukhov in Trubniki traditionally hosts a festival celebrating the birthday of the house's owner — the outstanding painter, collector, and museum figure Ilya Semyonovich Ostroukhov.\r\n\r\nOn August 3 and 4 the program includes a museum promenade and a tour of the old mansion, once visited by Henri Matisse and Feodor Chaliapin. We will talk about merchant traditions and the secret life of museum exhibits. We will collect impressions, converse about travels, and listen to romances on the veranda of the old mansion.\r\n\r\nIlya Semyonovich Ostroukhov was born on August 1, 1858. His name is associated with the mansion at Trubnikovsky Lane, 17. In 1889 Ostroukhov married the daughter of the tea-trading millionaire Pyotr Botkin, and in 1890 he became the owner of the house. Here was his household museum, famous throughout Moscow, whose collection included works by Serov, Levitan, Vrubel, Repin, Degas, Matisse, Renoir, Manet, as well as a very rich collection of Russian icons. In 1918 the private museum was nationalized; Ostroukhov was appointed its lifelong custodian, and the mansion became a branch of the Tretyakov Gallery, receiving the name Museum of Iconography and Painting named after I. S. Ostroukhov. After Ostroukhov's death the museum was disbanded and the collection ended up in the holdings of major art museums, and in 1979 the mansion was transferred to the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dahl. At present the House of I. S. Ostroukhov in Trubniki is a research and exhibition department of the State Museum of the History of Russian Literature named after V. I. Dahl.
