The CK19 Cultural Center presents the exhibition "The Further Into the Forest" — a curated art project-investigation of the inner psychological space of the individual. The exhibition features over 30 photographic works, a large-scale installation, a number of art objects and a classic medium — painting. Authorship is shared between the project's curator, Vitalia Yamnaya, and the photographer Svetlana Skopin.
Playing on the beginning of the well-known proverb, "The deeper into the forest, the more wood," the project is a metaphorical journey into one's own subconscious with a single aim: to finally understand where the roots of primal fears, anxieties, hopes and desires take hold.
This unobtrusive road-movie is supported by various media performing distinct roles: photography is conceived as a documentary capture of internal "monsters," encounters with which require considerable courage and, ultimately, possess a healing effect. The interactive installation offers the viewer immersion in the atmosphere of the forest and the opportunity to carry out a small independent experiment, while the art objects are the material embodiment of the forest's "oddities."
The nonlinear narrative as a generalizing strategy of the project is determined by the properties of the psyche and memory: sometimes the most vivid recollections and insights come to us as flashbacks, and more often than not we are unable to control or arrange this process chronologically. Unknown territories, exploration of internal boundaries… We ask ourselves: how far can one go? To set off through the forest as an allegory of the soul's space, to follow the winding path of the unknown — what is this, if not a return to oneself?
"By visiting the exhibition, you will be able to gain a unique experience of living through emotions and observing internal psychological processes. <...> The exhibition presents contemporary media that are especially well suited to facilitate an encounter with art for both novice and seasoned viewers," shares the project's curator Vitalia Yamnaya.
The exhibition will open on August 8 and will run until September 1, 2024.
