Museum of the Tver State Puppet Theater
About museum
Kalininsky Puppet Theatre (now the Tver State Puppet Theatre), founded in 1944, has a rich history connected with outstanding figures — People's Artist A. M. Il'vovsky, who led the theatre for more than a quarter of a century; People's Artist I. E. Suni; and directors R. Ya. Gotkina — a student of S. V. Obraztsov, V. A. Nikitin, and others. The theatre's productions were broadcast on central Soviet television and were known across the country thanks to cooperation with the Creative Association "Ekran". From this collaboration came remarkable puppet animated films that have been watched and loved by several generations — "Po shchuchemu veleniyu" (1970), "Oslik Plyush" (1971), "Katavasia" (1974) featuring the theatre's actors and puppets.
The new museum of the Tver Puppet Theatre invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of puppets, meet the people who devoted their lives to the theatre, and learn about the institution's development: from its origins to its contemporary achievements.
The exhibition will include not only archival materials — a collection of preserved puppets, sets, sketches, posters, and photographs that are genuine artefacts of theatrical heritage — but will also give visitors the opportunity to operate puppets, watch video recordings of performances, take part in virtual tours, and much more.
